Well that's not cool. I was sweating on how long the drivers could make the tires last at the Austin GP, I can't even get the Gran Turismo Formula car in GT4 to last its rear tires more than 12-17 laps depending on the circuit.

Also,

Furthermore, drivers will not be allowed to use the 'prime' specification of tyres for more than 50 per cent of the race distance, while the 'option' compound will not be allowed to be used for more than 30 per cent of the race distance.

what the fuck? how are drivers supposed to finish the race?

Right, because <2 second pit stops will make a race more interesting...

<2 is nearly instantaneous anyway. Why not just have everyone drive through pit lane twice per race. It's the same effect, kind of like the "joker" lap in Rally-X.

Bernie is an asshat and an idiot. Why can't he just go back to the cave he crawled out of. Troll.

This has got to be something Pirelli lobbied for. It lets them make lower deg tires so the drivers can drive 10/10ths and not have to worry about managing them, all the while helping Bernie provide a show. With pit stops already in the race plan you don't have to force it with tire design. At first look, sounds like it might be a decent solution.

50+30=80...how do they finish the last 20% without tires?

Two stops would be three sets of tires would it not?

"Proposed"

Which means Bernie is still brilliant.. Creating headlines and discussion when there are no cars on track.

Maybe it means 30 per cent of the race distance with the same set of the 'option' compound

Anytime he is quoted in the news, it's some statement meant for headlines. He's the best hype man in the business.

"I would like to see one driver change per race." would be one of the things he would say. He has a pocket full of these ridiculous one-liners.

I would actually be ok with this. I know tire management is part of the sport but I hate watching someone protect their tires all race. I want to watch them all go out and push their asses off. I want to see the fastest car/driver win. I know strategy is a huge part of racing. I get that. I just cant stand to watch racers holding back in the largest, most prestigious, most watched racing series in the world.
